M.A.D. Pink (Making A Difference for Pink) 2012

Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh is organizing a large-scale carnival at Dataran Pahlawan Megamall Melaka on 7 October with the theme, “M.A.D. Pink (Making A Difference for Pink) 2012”.

The event is held in accordance with the primary objective to heighten the public’s awareness on breast cancer, as early detection can help save lives.

Complimentary programs for the public include a free three-point basic health screening by PHAK on blood glucose, blood pressure, body mass index (BMI) and basic analysis on body fat. There will also be various booths from participating partners to promote medical supplies and health products at special offers.

M.A.D. Pink 2012, held as part of PHAK’s corporate social responsibility, will run from 10.00 AM to 8.00 PM on 7 October 2012 at the upper deck area in Dataran Pahlawan Megamall Melaka. An exciting variety of activities such as treasure hunt, coloring contest, dance showcase and more, has been lined up to benefit the local community.

MTA @ MACAU Sheraton Hotel Grand Opening: 

Sands China Ltd on Thursday announced the grand opening of Sands Cotai Central phase II in Macau with the Sheraton Macau Hotel, the largest Starwood property in the world. Visionary tycoon Sheldon G. Adelson, chairman Las Vegas Sands Corporation and Sands China Ltd, speaking at the opening ceremony said the idea of creating the Asian Las Vegas, "came to him in a dream." And hence the - launch of the largest Sheraton in the world (3,896 rooms) expansion in Macau was imminent.






Consisting of two towers overlooking the Macao Cotai Strip, the new hotel is also home to the world’s largest Sheraton Club Lounge, a main ballroom the size of more than 11 basketball courts, more than 14,800m² of meeting space, three restaurants and three outdoor pools with poolside cafes.

Stamford College Pool Tournament


The student body of Stamford College Malacca  is organizing a Pool Tournament as part of their Club activity. The event is open to all college students and universities in Melaka.

Objective~
Generally the objective that they intend to achieve by organizing  this event is to help develop a strong relationship between SCM and other colleges and universities in Melaka. Furthermore the process of organizing this event provides an opportunity for DCA semester 1 students to specifically develop their communication skills, organizing skills, time management skills and enhance leadership as well as strengthening the bond between DCA members.

The opening ceremony will be on the 22 /09/ 2012 (saturday)  between 12pm- 12.30pm for the ribbon cutting ceremony followed by the actual 2 day competition which would be held subsequently.

The winning team and individual names will be posted later for the knowledge of all and sundry.

Malaysia is leading in the prevalence of obesity among Southeast Asian countries. Almost one in two Malaysians are either overweight or obese, placing them at a high risk for diabetes.

One of the challenges in the diagnosis of diabetes is due to the non-existence of symptoms among its sufferers and also the lack of awareness and education among the public. What we need in Malaysia now is to increase the awareness and to start educating the public of how serious diabetes can be.

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) would like to alert the members of the public a list of companies and websites which are neither authorised nor approved under the relevant laws and regulations administered by BNM.
Please take note that the list is not exhaustive and only serves as a guide to members of the public based on information and queries received by BNM.The list will be updated regularly for public's reference.

Who may provide financial services in Malaysia?

Only financial institutions i.e. banksinsurance companies and takaful operators as well as money changers, remittance service providers and currency wholesalers (currently known as "the money services business") licensed by BNM under the relevant laws and regulations administered by BNM are allowed to provide financial services in Malaysia.

Why should consumers be careful when dealing with unregulated entities or persons?

  • Consequences:
    • Consumer protection under the laws administered by BNM IS NOT APPLICABLE should the members of the public choose to deal with the illegal financial service providers.
    • Members of the public who participate in the illegal financial activities could also BE CHARGED under the law as abetting the operators of such illegal activities.   
       
  • Thus, members of the public ARE ADVISED NOT TO:
    • Deal with any of the illegal financial service providers;
    • Reveal or disclose personal financial credentials to any of the illegal financial service providers; and
    • Involve or associate themselves with any of the illegal financial service providers.

    • Other Illegal Financial Activities expressly mentioned in the relevant law and regulations administered by BNM

How to detect an illegal scheme?

Members of the public are advised to be careful and not fall prey to these schemes. Be alert and look out for the following common features of these illegal schemes:
  • The approach by the operators may have been made by mail, telephone, Internet or in person, but the intention is always the same, that is, to take money from unsuspecting victim for goods or services that they have no intention to provide.
  • Schemes which promise interest rates, returns or profits, which are much higher than the returns offered by licensed financial institutions for their deposits.
  • The promises of high returns are aimed at attracting the members of the public to participate in the schemes and the investors may not be given copies of any documentation including agreements by the operators.
  • There is also no assurance that the operators of such schemes can continue to pay the high returns.
  • At the beginning of such schemes, the operators are able to use money received from subsequent depositors to pay high returns or to repay the principal amount to the earlier depositors.
  • However, the operators could not invest the deposits in equally or more lucrative ventures or investments and therefore unable to sustain the high returns or repayment promised to their depositors.

Please note that these schemes will fail eventually when there are no new deposits being continually received by the operators. At such time, the "get-rich-quick" schemes will collapse and the depositors or investors will lose their investments.

Malacca Tourism Association will be organizing the Mall Safety Awarness Campaign 2012 –Say "NO" To Crime 
 in collaboration with Polis Diraja Malaysia, Melaka  to be held at Mahkota Parade on 1st September 2012 (Saturday)  at 12.00 noon-2.00 p.m. at Concourse  Area, Mahkota Parade.
With the coming holidays soon upon us, many of us inevitably find our lives a bit more hectic as we head out do our shopping and preparations. The Malacca Tourism Association (MTA) wants to remind members of our community to be aware and to please pay attention to your surroundings, especially during the holiday season when we traditionally see an increase in people movement in public areas and car parks. While aspects of personal safety and crime awareness are norm, they can often decrease during the holiday season as the malls, stores, and parking lots become more crowded and people feel safer in large crowds.
However, an unlocked vehicle door, gifts/wallets/purses left in plain sight, an unattended purse in a grocery cart while shopping, or mail left in an unsecured receptacle, are open invitations to thieves.
